This one-day, hands-on training workshop provides a practical and structured introduction to modelling part-to-part contact using MSC Nastran. Designed to bridge theory and application, the session will guide attendees through industry-proven techniques for defining and controlling contact behaviour within complex assemblies.

Through expert instruction and guided exercises, participants will gain a clear understanding of how contact modelling can be used to assemble models efficiently, and capture structural behaviour accurately.

What you'll learn

During the workshop, you will explore both linear and non-linear contact modelling techniques, including:

✅ An introduction to modelling glued contact in MSC Nastran—a fast and effective method for joining parts without the need for mesh conformity.
✅ Understanding different contact body types and when to use them.
✅ Key contact settings and parameters, and how they influence model behaviour and solver performance.
✅ Progressing to separating (non-linear) contact, including practical examples such as joint separation, peeling effects and preloaded bolted joints.
✅ Best-practice guidance to help improve model stability, accuracy and confidence in results.

Who should attend?

This workshop is ideal for engineers and analysts who want to strengthen their contact modelling capability, including:

➔ Current MSC Nastran users looking to deepen their expertise.

➔ Engineers using Abaqus, Ansys, Siemens or Altair who are interested in understanding MSC Nastran workflows and capabilities.

➔ Simulation professionals working with assemblies, joints, or complex contact interactions across industries.

Additional Benefits and Prerequisites

All participants will receive a one-month evaluation licence after the course, enabling them to apply the techniques learned directly to their own models and projects.
