Exclusive Training Event: Romax & Particleworks Software

Join us for a unique opportunity to learn from two global leaders in simulation technology. This event brings together Hexagon’s Romax specialists and STRIDES’s Particleworks experts to showcase the strengths of each tool and demonstrate how integrated workflows can transform transmission design and analysis.

Attendees will gain hands-on experience with Romax Energy and Particleworks, hear insights from expert users and developers, and explore results from recent case studies. No prior experience is required, though familiarity with transmission analysis will be helpful.

Why attend?

✅ Learn from experts: Engage with specialists and discover best practices and innovative applications for both tools.
Fast, high-fidelity insights: See how even new Particleworks users can quickly set up and run complex fluid simulations through Romax’s integrated interface.
Integrated workflows: Understand how combining both tools enables advanced lubrication, thermal management, and NVH optimisation—critical for next-generation transmission systems.
Hands-on experience: Try both software solutions and learn how they can help you make better design decisions earlier and with greater confidence.

Who should attend?

This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in gearbox analysis. Prior experience in transmission design is helpful but not required. It’s especially valuable for CAE engineers familiar with transmission systems who have not yet used particle-based CFD in this context.

What is the Link Between Romax And Particleworks?

Romax Efficiency Analysis

Founded in 1989 by Dr. Peter Poon, Romax introduced the first commercial software using hybrid analytical methods for fast, accurate bearing and drivetrain analysis. Today, as part of Hexagon, Romax offers industry-leading multi-physics simulation tools for designing, analysing, and optimizing electro-mechanical powertrains. The Romax Energy tool predicts gearbox efficiency using standard-based methods (e.g., ISO 14179-2) and proprietary techniques.

The Challenge

While static analyses in Romax Energy provide a comprehensive prediction of internal transmission loads (essential for calculating load-dependent losses), oil behaviour inside a gearbox is highly dynamic and difficult to model without test data or CFD simulation. This means that for churning losses, significant assumptions must be made about the lubrication properties (e.g. oil distribution, temperature, viscosity) – these assumptions introduce uncertainty into the speed-dependent results.

Particleworks MPS Method

Particleworks is built on the Moving Particle Simulation (MPS) method; a particle-based CFD approach developed by Professor Seiichi Koshizuka which allows free surface and incompressible flow simulation with much greater speed than traditional mesh-based approaches. By using a particle-based method, complex mesh generation is avoided entirely. This allows engineers to set up in minutes rather than days to handle splashing, deformation and multiphase interactions with exceptional stability to accelerate development, improve design confidence and solve problems that mesh-based tools often cannot.

The Solution

Utilising both tools, engineers can accurately and quickly predict the total transmission power losses while still in the design phase. This allows for better engineering decisions to be made while working in an environment where the impact on durability and NVH performance can be monitored.
